Recreational marijuana establishments will be allowed to operate in town, after a ballot question to prohibit the businesses failed at town election Tuesday by a vote of 376 in favor and 561 opposed. The unofficial results were reported by Town Clerk Doreen Cedrone shortly before 8:30 p.m.

Voters at town meeting had split approval of bylaw amendments to ban marijuana establishments, with a prohibition in the general bylaws passing with a simple majority but a zoning bylaw amendment failing to get a two-thirds majority.

But since the measure failed at town election, “We’re not going anywhere” with a ban, Town Manager Adam D. Gaudette said.
