Three pot-related articles are up for consideration at a special town meeting set for 7 p.m. March 28 at Thornton W. Burgess Middle School in Hampden.
The articles include an amendment to the general bylaws to ban retail marijuana facilities from operating within Hampden’s boundaries, an amendment to the zoning bylaws to complement that prohibition, and a moratorium on recreational facilities to give “sufficient time to engage in a planning process.”
The ban would apply to any recreational marijuana-related facilities, including retailers, cultivators, testing facilities, product manufacturers, or businesses offering “on-site consumption” of marijuana or pot-related products.
The zoning amendment would codify the ban by expressly outlawing the establishment of recreational pot facilities in Hampden, while the moratorium would prevent using land or structures for recreational or retail purposes as the town studies and considers the impact of retail marijuana.
