#MUNICIPAL #GUIDANCE: Barnstable

Barnstable Town Council should carefully consider the loss of tax revenue and jobs if it chooses to ban retail marijuana sales.

That’s what the head of the state’s Cannabis Control Commission advised at a July 18 Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce cannabis workshop.

The chamber hosted a presentation-turned-Q&A session with Steven Hoffman, chairman of the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission, at the Cape Codder Resort in Hyannis.

Barnstable Town Council was expected to hold to a joint meeting with Barnstable Planning Board on Thursday, Aug. 9, over a proposed zoning amendment which, if approved, would add regulations for establishing and operating registered recreational marijuana research facilities and independent testing laboratories but prohibit all other non-medical marijuana establishments in the town.

Wendy Northcross, executive director of the chamber, said the workshop with Hoffman was designed to explore the impacts and promising business potential of adult-use recreational marijuana’s legalization on local businesses.
