French said the town has several options:
– Extend the moratorium to allow time to further review the new state regulations
– Consider a ban. Because Mansfield voters favored legalization in 2016 a ban must be passed by a majority vote at Town Meeting as well as at the ballot box.
– Seek passage of a bylaw at this spring’s Town Meeting determining zoning and regulations for recreation marijuana
– Do nothing, which means there would be no restrictions on where recreational marijuana is sold
The Planning Board and selectmen agreed the town should seek an extension of the moratorium to November 2019 to allow more time to determine a plan once the state regulations are final.
They will consult with town counsel to determine if a moratorium extension is possible and if so will put it before Town Meeting, which is tentatively scheduled for April 10.
