Mayor Jasiel Correia II, the subject of a federal investigation, reported $35,150 in his legal defense fund to the Office of Campaign and Political Finance and the most generous donor to date has a connection to a local marijuana facility.
This is the first filing for Correia’s segregated account toward the legal defense fund since he established it in January.
The largest donor according to the report is J.H. Holdings, Inc. of Portsmouth, R.I., with a $20,000 donation.
According to an application to the Executive Office of Health and Human Services medical marijuana program, Jeffrey Johnson is a managing member of J.H. Holdings, who is also the chief financial officer, treasurer, clerk and director of Northeast Alternatives.
Northeast Alternatives is the city’s third marijuana dispensary under construction as a grow house and distribution center located inside a strip mall at 999 William S. Canning Blvd.
In order for a company to start the licensing process to open a marijuana facility in Massachusetts, it must obtain a letter of non-opposition from a city’s mayor.
