Cannabis coincidence? Correia’s trial, local pot shop’s hearing against CCC set for same day

Local marijuana company, Northeast Alternatives, asked a Suffolk County Superior Court civil judge to expedite a hearing for a second preliminary injunction against the Cannabis Control Commission to compel a decision on the licensing of its more than $3 million facility in Lakeville.

Ironically, that hearing for Northeast Alternatives is set for April 20, the same day jury selection begins in former Mayor Jasiel Correia II’s trial in Boston, which includes alleged extortion allegations of marijuana companies.

It’s also the day of the unofficial marijuana holiday called 4/20 that celebrates cannabis use and its legalization in some parts of the country.

The CCC has put a hold on an investigation into the “suitability” of Northeast Alternatives to receive the license and one of the company’s principals, Chris Harkin, who may testify for federal prosecutors in Correia’s trial.
