Grow, Gift, Repair

Baseline Study part 2

The report surveyed 3,022 adults on their recreational use. Here are some of the major takeaways:

21 percent of adults say they’ve used marijuana recreationally in the past 30 days. Divided by gender, it’s 26 percent of men and 17 percent of women.

18-to-25-year-olds reported the highest rates of use.

Overall use is highest in western Massachusetts: 30 percent

By race: Whites 71 percent; Hispanics 12 percent; blacks 7 percent; and Asians 3 percent.

While most users said they smoke their cannabis, 40 percent used it in other ways.

More than half of adults say they see few if any risks to using marijuana for recreational purposes.

34 percent say they drove while under the influence.

No one said their marijuana use had triggered an ER or urgent care visit.

The number of calls to a regional poison control center have increased since marijuana became legal for medical use in Massachusetts, most related to unintentional use by children.
